Adventkranz

There’s a lot going on this month at North Church!

Advent Workshop this Sunday, Dec. 2
We invite people of all ages, members, friends, neighbors, family to carve out some special, laid-back, sacred time for our annual Advent Workshop following worship.  Please bring a dish or dessert to share for our potluck lunch which will be enjoyed while we listen to holiday music, make Advent and Christmas ornaments, candle and greenery centerpieces, and new this year—
an advent log with candles for you to take home and practice watching and waiting this Advent.  (Yes, there will even be wood drilling going on!)  The Christmas tree will be up in the sanctuary for us to decorate.  This is a very special time to soak up the spiritual meaning of the season.  The event is sponsored by our Christian Education Committee.

Covenant to Care Christmas Angels
We will once again participate in this outreach program of purchasing Christmas gifts for children in our community. Please sign up by Sunday Dec. 2nd on Sunday Dec. 9 the names and wishes of the children will be available and wrapped gifts should be returned to the church by Sunday Dec. 16th.

Did you know Christmas Pageants are one of the best ways to include new friends in church?
We are beginning to prepare our Christmas Pageant “Prepare Ye The Way” to share in worship on Sunday, December 16.  Two rehearsals will be on December 2 and 9 during Sunday School.  (Children will not be taking communion on Dec 2 to give us more time to prepare.)  We will also have a rehearsal on Saturday, December 16 at 4 p.m. at church.

Yards of Purple: Stories for Advent by Sarah M. Foulger
From the introduction…
Advent is season of preparation for the incarnation, a time of preparing our hearts for the birth of the Christ child. It is also a wonderful season for storytelling. There is no shortage of amazing Christmas tales. However, many of the available stories are either quite secular in nature or specifically geared for younger children. The stories in this collection are intended to be used by adults and older children as a way of preparing hearts and urging thoughtfulness during Advent. The stories are contemporary and are about very different kinds of individuals, each of whom is struggling with an issue such as freedom, responsibility, repentance, or the presence of God.

Come join us!
